Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA): The effect of referencing a course(carry over) on your CGPA.

The TERRIBLE TRUTH  you did not know about CARRY-OVER(referencing a course)in the NIGERIAN university.
Many students enter universities with a promising academic future only to be marred by the realities of life within their citadel. As a fresher, you are told to be diligent and to ensure you rewrite your failed courses and pass. Yes!  This is good but do not PRAY nor give any chance to fail any course. Click Here to get Top 7 most rated method on how to read and pass your exams. Although failing a course does not mean you aren't Brilliant but some failures occur due to ignorance and lack of adequate information . Some students are being frustrated in school due to their poor academic performance which is rated by their CGPA.
In a FIVE POINTS GRADING SYSTEM(uni.)
1.49-below===pass
1.50-2.39=====third class
2.40-3.49=====second class lower division
3.50-4.49=====second class upper division
4.50-5.0======First Class.
ACADEMIC RATING(A--F)
A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 and F=0.

If you score an A In a course, you will be awarded 5 rating as above. This will be multiplied by the course credit unit either 2 or 3 unit course etc to get your final point in the course. E.g If GSS 111(use of English) is a 3 credit unit course and funke scored an A,
Where A=5, and credit unit=3
5*3=15 which is calculated in points,
Therefore funke has 15points in GSS111.
If it's B, then 4*3=12points, if it's C,then 3*3=9points, if D, then 2*3=6, if it's E, then 1*3=3points.
BUT IF YOU FAIL. F=0, then 0*3=0points, you will be required to carryover the course to another level( e.g from first year to second year that is from 100level to 200l.

PASSING A CARRYOVER COURSE IS DIFFICULT because:
LIMITED TIME/ ATTENDANCE : The academic curriculum and course outline  is very dynamic. You must attend both your current level lectures and carryover course lecture,do term papers, assignments etc for both and you must also RE-REGISTER the courses you failed😢. Some universities set a regulation of 70% minimum attendance to qualify for exams in each course meaning that if you are in 200level,you will attend  all the classes of the courses/course you failed in 100 level meeting 70% minimum.
This is a HARD task😥 when combined with your current level classes. This brings confusion and desperation in the life of the student. He/she will then source for help either by filling the pockets of his brilliant friend or junior colleague or hiring someone intelligent enough to assist him in attendance, assignments/term papers in the failed course. Some times these students become VICTIMS as prey to University Wolves who  pretend to be helpers.

EXAM CLASH:Your current level exams time table may clash with your carry over course exams and you must write the 2courses at the same designated time( This is wickedness right😦). No one cares!!

NOW THE UGLY EFFECT ON YOUR FINAL GRADUATING RESULTS.
let's assume you are very intelligent and you passed your carry over course with an A or B or C or D or E. Yes you are free from the course but it will affect your grade points. LET ME EXPLAIN :

If you passed with an A.  A=5 under normal circumstances but now you will not be awarded 5 during results reconciliation because you wrote the course twice. Hence your mark will be divided by two(2).😊

So your A will be A(5)/2=2.5. In the academic rating 2.5 is approximated to 3.
3 is C. Therefore your final score in the admin sheet is Credit(C) instead of A. So you can now calculate your points according to the Credit unit of the carryover course.

Remember it is not easy to score A in a referenced course(carryover), yet it was snatched away from you in exchange for a C.
If You scored a B, then 4/2=2. Which is D
If C, then 3/2=1.5 approx.2.Which is D
If D, then 2/2=1 your final result is E
If E, then 1/2=0.5 approx.I which is E.
Remember that these will only reflect upon your final graduating result during results reconciliation.

If you aren't careful, you may fail the course again and F= 0, then 0/2=0
You will re-write the course the third time and your result/results will be divided by 3.

If A, 5/3=1.6 approx to 2 which is D
If B, 4/3=1.3 it's still 1 which is E
If C, 3/3=1 which is E
If D, 2/3=0.6 approx to 1 which is E
If E, 1/3=0.3 it will just be recorded and multiplied with your credit unit as 0.3 no approximation.

This is the truth. And a dangerous platform. Therefore if you want to SORT a lecturer, sleep with a lecturer  or engage in filthy things just to pass or get an A or B in your carry over course,  just know that you are being DECEIVED. You can't make a reconciliable A or B in any carry over course. Though an A in your class record but a C in the administrative result sheet which is used to grade you finally and the MOST important.

Those who thought they will graduate with 2:1(second class upper)  but felt disappointed when they saw 2:2 or third class, the above was what happened.

Are you in 200 level,  it is not too late,  you can make a decision now to try your academic best not to fail or carry over a course again. Depending on your academic integrity. You can DO IT.

As for fresh students : It is time to tuck up and buckle down. 😊😊

    2. The course you wrote in Your first semester is different from the one you wrote in your second semester. Kindly check the course codes not the name eg, Use of English is the name of both courses in first and second semester but their codes are GSS 111 or GST 101(first semester) and GSS 121 or GST 111(second semester). So if you fail your Use of English in first semester, Yes it's a carry over, you must re-write it in your first semester next session. Both courses are from same department but not the same codes. I hope you understand.

  7. My question is that how to calculate the credit unit for carry cover course after rewrite and pass with A

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I already told you in my write-up. When you reference(carry over a course, you will re-write the exam, if you pass with an A, that's awesome but it will reflect as A only in your Immediate result. Your result will be submitted by your college officer through your dean to senate for approval, from there, your result will be submitted at the academic affairs..upon your final exam which is also called(degree exams),there will be a result reconciliation. At this point, all your carry over courses eg the one you passed with an A will be calculated as follows: A=5
Multiplied by the credit unit of the course eg 3 or 4 credit unit. This will be divided by the no of times you wrote the course. Therefore if you fail a course once and you rewrite the exam as carryover and you scored an A in a 3 unit course, it means you wrote the exam twice hence : 5/2=2.5~approx to 3 which is C(hence it reflects as C in your result reconciliation when you graduate.

    carryover in my 300l

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Congratulations as a finalist. Both 2.69 and 3.49 are within the same category(2nd class lower division), I assume you are in a 4 year course... Now, you had 4 carry over, this means you won't graduate with your immediate course mates.. I hope you know that. Though do not worry, come back as a spill over year student or extra year and smash those result. If you can concentrate on your current level and pass them all with an A or a minimum of B(this will boost your CGPA). My advice, leave your semi finals(300 level) carry over course and focus on registering your final courses.. Concentrate on them and pass them. Then come back next year(remember you will pay extra school fees) and write your carry over course, try to make an A in all 4..this will give you a C in your cumulative since you just wrote them twice. It's late to start reading for both carry over and final courses.. Except you want to drop some courses but my advice is: If it's just 300 level carry over.. Leave them and concentrate on final papers. Yes, forget about graduating this year cos you won't.. But who cares, what matters is your CGPA. Its better to graduate later with a comfortable 2.2(second class lower) than to graduate now with third class(cos your result can drop drastically if you aren't careful in final year. Third class is equivalent to no higher education!!! Cos this is Nigeria. 2.1, 2.2 and first class will get you a job in Nigeria .. Then from there you make your way up the ladder.. God can uplift you higher than anyone with First Class but first have a recognised and accepted certificate. I hope my advice will help you.

    1. Congratulations on your GP. You would have had 3.50 and above if not for the carryover but nevermind..its early to salvage the situation. I will assume that you're in your second semester, First, change your reading pattern. Look out for senior colleagues in 200 level who haven't yet gotten any carryover and befriend them.. Ask them if there were tutorials they attended in their first year because there's always been but many fresh students do not know. Register the carryover course once you enter the next session , look for a bright 100 level students especially a course Rep to fill you in on activities or assignments relating to the course. Please try to get an A in the course, this will give you a C in reconciliation. Now, do the following and thank me later:
      1) Borrow note books from 200 level bright students who did the course eg.If you're in 100 level second semester, Borrow GSS 121 and other 100 level second semester note books from a 200 level bright student who passed those courses and has a clean and organized hand writing.
2)Get past questions on all the courses you registered.. Get atleast, 3 years past questions in each course eg.. 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020 exam papers..😂 go through each question and look for the answer and topic in your notes or the notes you borrowed from a senior colleague who did same course and passed it in their time... Preferably a 200 level students cos their notes are still current. By the time you answer all those past questions, you will notice that you've covered(read through)the note book. You will also notice that some questions were repeated each year or every other year. This method worked for me and had worked and still working for all my mentees.
      3) Attend private tutorials organised by senior colleagues inside the campus *only* especially if they're mathematical or engineering or chemistry related courses. These senior colleagues aid lecturers in marking and recording results and had seen the marking scheme.
      4) Ensure you submit your assignment correctly eg. If a lecturer through the course Rep stated that you should either write the assignment and submit with 200 naira for typing or you should type and submit, please be smart.. Write and submit with 200 naira. These lecturers aren't reading the assignments, they will just collect the names of students who paid for typing only. Those who typed and submitted are seen as *I Too know students* etc

    1. Hello dear🤗, there's no carry-over until your exam paper is marked, recorded, deliberated upon by the departmental lecturers, approved by them, sent to the university's Senate and *approved* by the senate, then result brought to the college through the dean. Relax my dearie, you might actually pass the course and sometimes, the cut off mark might be reduced or some marks added if the performance is poor.😊

    1. Honestly my dear, I will advice you to make up Your mind to return for an extra year. Harken to my advice: Concentrate on your current semester. You have to change your reading pattern and your clique. Look for intelligent students and become friends with them. Try as much as possible to pass your current level courses and your final year courses, then return for extra year(you will pay extra school fees) and register the courses both first and second semester. Smash the courses and graduate. Graduating with Your mates isn't much important, it's Your result that matter.

    1. Kindly visit the student's affairs in the administrative block in either of those schools and confirm. Academic guidelines are updated every 2 to 3 years but I assure you: Most Nigerian universities do not award first class to students who failed a course. This is why brilliant students call for a review of their marked paper once they fail the course. They insist that their paper must be remarked because their academic qualification may immediately be affected.

I'm in my 300 lvl second semester about to write exams and my GP is 2.2 tho my 300 lvl first semester results aren't out yet and I'm about going for my IT which is 10 credit unit..but I have 3 carryovers from my 200lvl second semester and some carry forward courses that I'll have to write this semester...I already get the idea that I might be coming back for an extra year depending on the credit unit space I'll have left...I just want to know if it's possible to hit at least a second class upper if I do well in my remaining courses and my IT even tho I might spill

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My answer is : A big fat YES🤏. I assume you're studying a 5 year course, Infact, when you go for IT, focus on the things you want to learn, create a different route, present something unique and different during your IT defense and Ensure you have a lot of practical knowledge and experience, explain with videos and pictures.. if you Make an A in your IT defense (that's a cool 5.0)😚, focus and ensure you pass your 300 level second semester courses, pass your 400 courses and your 500 level courses.. if you can..then come back and do your spill over. Better to make a second class upper later than graduating with a second class lower early. Yes, you can make a comfortable 2:1. Your IT result is a key to that, don't miss your chance (I pray you will get an A when you defend it). Also ensure you do not fail courses again. Good luck 🤗

  15. I am in 100lvl and I have 4 carryovers. 2 in 3unit load and 2 from 2unit load. Can I still graduate with my current coursemate??

    I need help please

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I want you to be specific, if I understood clearly, you failed 4 courses in your first semester.. if that's the case, am sorry to hear that but it means that you're carrying over a total of 10 credit units courses. Well, you will have to check the maximum credit load to carry in your 200 level (Visit your college and ask them to confirm). Sometimes, the total credit in a semester maybe 21 credit unit(credit load), while the University states that a maximum of 24 credit unit only isn't exceeded. If that's the case, then it means that you can add extra 3 credit units to reach the maximum..hence in 200 level first semester, you add one(3 unit). In 300 level first semester, you add another (3 unit), in 400 level, you add the last 2(2)units, if it's a 4 yr course meaning that you must not fail any other course again. If so, it's possible..but it's likely you may not graduate but..we will cross the bridge when you get there, just do your best. It's possible to graduate with your mate but the percentage is 30%. My advice is this: Please, change your friends and reading pattern. You're definitely in the wrong circle or you're not getting something or infos correctly. Meet your class mates with no carry-over and befriend them. Ask questions, go for tutorials. Borrow notebooks.. simply make brilliant friends and form a reading partner. Don't worry, do not feel depressed, people around you will help you, just be sincere and draw brilliant mates. Remember, you must not sort any lecturer for any reason whatsoever. Follow the steps above. Feel Free to come back and ask questions if you need answers, I might have graduated a long time ago but am still in the system, I will render an advice as best as I can. Good luck dear

  16. Pls how can I calculate my gpa

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Follow this example carefully.
Let's say you're in ABSU or EBSU or UNN or MOUAU or UNILAG or ESUTH or.....(Nigerian universities)
You are in a department etc.. Let's say Biochemistry or Civil Engineering or Optometry or..
Let's say that your department gave outline for course registration and the total course is 20 credit unit which are as follows: GSS 111(3 unit), GSS 112(3 unit), GSS 113(3 unit), ENG 111(3 unit), MTH 111(2 unit), ENG112(2 unit), PHY111(2 unit), CHM 111(2 unit). Totalling 20 credit unit.
Now, let's see the marks and scoring:
      To make A=5,B=4,C=3,D=2,E=1,F=0.

Having A on all means that if calculated by the credit load you will get: (3*5)+(3*5)+(3*5)+(3*5)+(2*5)+(2*5)+(2*5)+(2*5)=15+15+15+15+10+10+10+10
A total of 100 scoring. Let's divide 100 by the total no of credit load which is 20: 100/20 =5(that's how you get 5 points). Now let's use this method to add and divide yours.
From above Your results are as follows:

      Let's say in your courses in first semester you made 2As, 3Bs, 2Cs and 1F as follows: GSS 111(3 unit=A), GSS 112(3 unit=A), GSS 113(3 unit=B), ENG 111(3 unit=B), MTH 111(2 unit=B), ENG112(2 unit=C), PHY111(2 unit=C), CHM 111(2 unit=F).
      To calculate.
The score X the credit load;. That means
      GSS 111(3 unit=A), A is 5 hence 5*3= 15

      GSS 112(3 unit=A),
      A is 5 hence 5*3= 15

      GSS 113(3 unit=B), B is 4 hence 4X3 =12 ENG 111(3 unit=B),
      B is 4 hence 4X3 =12

      MTH 111(2 unit=B),
      B is 4 hence 4X2 =8

      ENG112(2 unit=C), C is 3 hence 3X2=6

      PHY111(2 unit=C),
      C is 3 hence 3X2=6

      CHM 111(2 unit=F).F is 0 hence 2X0= 0

      So, let's calculate,
      15+15+12+12+8+6+6+0=74
Now let's divide 74 by the total credit load which is 20
      Therefore 74/20 =3.7
      Hence your GPA is 3.7
Which is a comfortable second class upper for the semester 😚. Use this method to calculate yours. I had to simplify it to make it easy.

  18. Is it possible for a DE student to change department after the first session?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you are a DE student, it means you started from 200 level,(except otherwise). So let me assume that you currently concluded 200 level, my answer is : Yes! and No! (Dependingl on the course). First you need to answer these: Are you ready to step down? And repeat your just concluded session. 95% of the time, you will step down. It's easier to change department immediately you gained admission. Or if you're in 100Level and you wanted to switch to a lower department according to departmental ranking, if so, you will easily switch and retain your level(e.g. switching from Medicine to microbiology)but if higher(switching from microbiology to Medicine or industrial Chemistry/physics to Electrical electronics Engineering/Civil/Gas/Petroleum Engineering), You may not be granted senate approval or if approved, you will step down e.g. If you are in 200 Level and you just concluded your session, ready to enter 300 Level, you will be asked to repeat 200 level again in your new department. Kindly decide. So it's a Yes!(40%) and a No!(60%, if am to advice)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Am a bit confused, I will Like to get the details of all your scores. Cumulative of 3.98 means you either had 4.0 in a particular semester and 3.96 in another semester... If at all you failed a course, it means that the courses are either one unit courses or maximum of two units or you had As all through the courses in both first and second and failed one courses each(not practical). See, if this is true, please call for your papers to be remarked, something is wrong somewhere!. As for graduating with first class, I hope it's not late...cos definitely your scripts should be remarked depending on your school if you had written to me earlier...but if late already (I feel it is, focus on your CGPA and continue to hit high..maybe, your case might attract university's senate attention before you graduate!!

  23. Please, if a DE student (200l) decide to change his course after the first year, will he have to repeat the 200l? Like a physics student want to change to Agriculture. What's the minimum GPA for the school to withdraw such student to another Department? Funaab, to be precise? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kindly Visit your college officer or Go to the office of the Dean students affairs or DVC academics in FUNNAAB for further enquiry. To switch from one department to another especially to another college has its challenges. Physics department may likely be under the college of physical sciences... while Agriculture may be under colleges of agric economics and agricultural related field.. depending on the acronym of Your citadel., So they are different colleges. It's easier within same college but different colleges attracts different criteria. For Medical students, if you're switching from biological sciences to the college of medicine and veterinary Medicine, you must have a CGPA of 3.5 and above, you must not have a carry over. Then if you meet the criteria, you proceed to the academic affairs, pick your change of course form(it's a bit expensive depending on the university's Senate approval). Your application will be decided upon at the next Senate meeting. 80% chances, their might be a vote to step you down. It's rare to allow a continuation from a higher level. You might be lucky. I know of someone who got lucky. That's Why it's best to choose Your course wisely before you enroll as a DE.

    2. Ma I had 3 carry overs in my 200l first semester but I can't carry all of them in 300l because it has exceeded the credit units for that semester, so is it advisable to drop my core course and pick all the carry overs in one semester, And write the one I dropped in 400l!

      Delete
    3. It's ok, do not feel bad for failing those courses, just improve on your studying capacity and ask your brilliant colleagues for assistance. It's always adviceable to write Exams with your course mates. My advice, first make a decision not to Fail any other course hence forth and work towards it. It's possible if you put your energy into it. If you promise to excel henceforth, then my core advice: Do not drop any course. Add the ones that can enter within the total credit unit (please choose the ones that are easier to pass). If you pass all. Then 400 Level first semester, you pick another one that will add to the credit unit(easier too). If you succeed in passing all. Return as spill over(if you're studying a 4 year discipline. Return and focus on one remaining Carry over(the hardest with high credit unit), borrow few irrelevant courses to elevate the credit units... Pass your main course... Wait for result reconciliation.. Graduate and go for NYSC. I hope that helps.

    1. Hello Emmanuel, kindly note that you can calculate your CGPA once you see your grades in each of the courses undertaken(CGPA musnt be published). Go through my write up on how to calculate the CGPA and GP, follow same pattern, start from 100 level through 300 level, get the CGPA of each level and divide by 3, that will show your current CGPA. I like your enthusiasm to graduating with first class, however, at this point, it shouldn't be your priority. Let's focus on getting a good result in the end. Work towards graduating with a second class upper.

  26. Good day ma.
Is there any consequences where one failes a 100level GSS course in MOUAU for insurance, but decides to re- write it in 300level instead of 200 level?
Will it be calculated or removed, because they wrote on the course form that "you must register your faild courses first"
    Please help.

    1. Each University has its own regulations. If stated on your course form, kindly obey. Moreso, GSS courses are re-written the following session upon carry-over. They are General courses. Try to pass them and continue your academics.

    1. You only drop a course if the carry-over course are all first semester courses as well as if their credit load Will cause an exceeded credit limit. For example, if they are 3 credit units, then yes, you May likely drop a course and pick it next year, but if the credit load won't be acceptable within the total credit unit, you will come back as extra year (spill over) to write it.

      Delete
    2. Send the results and credit unit of each course that you failed detailing if they are first or second semester courses, also send to me the total credit unit of both your current level and final year and the maximum credit load expected from each semester. If you do that, I will tell you exactly what to do.

    1. If I understood You clearly, you sat for and wrote Your carry-over course and you passed. Congratulations my dear. It will be added only to the GP of which it was originally registered. Except you dropped the course previously without registering and sitting for the exams(of which it's not a carry-over course. So the CO course that you passed will be submitted to the academic affairs for recording. They're the ones who will replace the Grade where you had an F before. So, let's say you had an F and later wrote the course again and had an A, it means that you wrote the course twice, so they will divide A(5) by 2 to get a C(2.5~3). Therefore, they will replace the F with a C. I hope you've been clarified.

    1. Yes you can. Your turning point may start from your current exam. If you can score an A in 70% of your courses then you're sure of 4.0 and above. If you're in your second Semester 300 level it means that you're done with 60% of academics. If you can hit a GP of 4.5 in your current semester as well as a GP of 4.0 in both first and second semester final year... surely, you will graduate with 2.1 . It will be a tedious task but you can do it if you want. Go back to the drawing board and ask yourself, what you really want. Your clique, your academic approach must be adjusted or totally erased. Go through my advice to some questions in The comment session.. you will learn a thing or two. Good luck.

  37. Hello Ma. Please I want to ask a question. There was a two unit course I did not write the exam in my 300level second semester and I did not register for it also. The total units for that semester was 21 but since I didn't register for that 2units, it makes it to be 19units. I later registered and did it in my 400L second semester in which I had A. My question is; would that course be counted as a carryover course for that semester I didn't do it. N.B: I didn't write the exam and I didn't register the course since I didn't do it.
Would this have any effect on my CGPA???

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you have a reason for not registering the course, you did not drop the course because, your total credit load wasn't filled. You deliberately left a course even when it's unit won't exceed the limit?, Yes, it's a carry over. You only drop a course, if adding it will course limit extension, moreso, in every semester, there's an additional 2-3 credit load added as a bonus incase there's need to extend eg. If your credit unit in a semester is 21, go through the course form, you will realize that it's written that there maybe a maximum of 23 credit unit. Meaning that you can add courses you even dropped earlier however, during reconciliation, all these are considered. If you didn't register a course on purpose even when there's a space and need to register it, it's an academic GSTD. Your A is likely a C.

    1. Hello and good day. It depends on the credit units of the Courses and The semesters. If 2 first semester and 2 second semester, also if they're 1 credit unit or a maximum of 2 credit unit, yes, you can Graduate with your mates for as long as you did not have another Carry over through your academic years in school. However, if the credit load is 3 for one, it will require extra academic strength and focus to graduate with your mates. If one of the CO Courses is a 4 credit units course, it's an automatic spill over. Have a lovely day.

I came back during the 2019/2020 session. I wrote my exams, but I missed three courses, 2GST( 2 units each) in first semester, because I didn't register it. Also, another 3 unit course. In 2nd semester, I couldn't write the GST because I didn't register it too. And it was 2 unit's each and the GST were three for the 2nd semester, making it 6 unit's altogether.
Now, I'm in 200 level... I want to know my chances of graduating with a good result, I'm doing a 4 year program and I don't know if I will graduate with my mates presently. Another thing, I am still going about doing my clearances due to the fact that I deferred my admission before. The chances of graduating with your mates is slim, however, if you are able to pass your courses from 100- 400 level without carry-over, you will graduate with them. Go and speak with your course rep, get the full details of your courses in 200 level and ensure you register them, read and write the exams when it's time. 1. Hello Juli, if you're sure that the four carry-overs will all fit into the credit unit which I am not too sure how correct your info about your final maximum credit load was, except the carry-overs are all one unit each, if not,it's Extra year. It's a bit out of Time to suggest but it would have been better if you had registered some of the carry-overs in your second semester 300Level. If you register the courses successfully, pass them, pass your final year courses both first and second semester without carry-over, surely you will graduate with your mates. For graduating with second class upper, that depends on your current CGPA and most importantly is your current IT. Try your best to get an A during your IT defense. If you do, there's 70% chances that you will graduate with 2:1(second class upper). Good luck in your IT. It's actually a strong determinant factor in Your future degree grade... Take it serious.

    1. Hello Lanre, my questions are: Did you re-write the carry-over courses?. Did you pass them after that? If yes, congratulations. If you've written a course and passed(either you passed with an A or E) a pass is a pass. For as long as it's on record that you succeeded in the course, please do not rewrite it. It won't even be recorded, infact, you won't register it again. It's not like a class test where you do a makeup test. It's not where you choose to rewrite your exams simply because you didn't do so well previously, that's why you strive to hit your target once and all. You're only allowed to re-register a course if you failed itOnce your results are submitted to the university Senate and approved, for as long as you passed or narrowly passed the course, then the course is off from the list for you. If you make a mistake of rewriting it when it's not a Carry over, well, you just wasted your time. The academic record in the universities are built with strong ethics, patterns, guidelines and proceedings. Kindly study harder, your GP can clock 3.0 depending on your current level in the citadel as well as the no of semesters Left prior to graduation. Have a lovely day and Merry Christmas to you in advance if you're a Christian. Have a lovely day 😊❣️

    1. How are you doing my dear? Do not feel depressed. Accepting the fact that you will have an extra year is already the beginning of better results. Do you know that if you score a C in All your courses, it's automatic 3.0 in your GP?. So smile☺️. Your final degree grade will depend on your total level. Is this your final year or penultimate year, if later, are you currently doing IT or no IT. These will determine. If you're in penultimate year, Yes you have 70% chances of hitting second class upper. All you do is work harder in your current level and finals. However, if you're already in your finals, let's focus on you passing all the carry-overs with a minimum of A. This Will give you a C in All during reconciliation. This will boost your CGPA to 3.2+. If you do so well in your current level and make a GP of 4.0 in both first and second, You will have a CGPA of 3.32. If you return next year and smash your CO.. then It will rise to 3.57. Yes, it's possible. However, it comes with a prize, hardwork, focus and prayers. One fact you should know: nothing is impossible. Things look impossible until someone does it. Believe it. Have a good day ahead.

    1. Hello dear, sorry I responded earlier, however, maybe due to network, it didn't drop.

I totally understand how you feel, I would advise that you work harder in your IT, prepare to Excel during your IT defense, this will give you *A* which is 5 points. Thus, your GP will be boosted. I do not know if the courses are 3 units each or altogether 3 units. If former, try to fix one in your second semester final year and it means that you may likely spend Extra year, which isn't an issue. The most important is your CGPA, When you return for extra year, focus and smash the courses with *A*. If the courses are 1 unit each, then you can fix all 3 in your final year second semester. My advice, when you return to school, change your clique of friends, focus, look out for new intelligent friends and join study group. Try your best not to have any other carry-over. Do not be afraid, stay positive. Have a lovely day My Dear.

    1. First I would say: Congratulations on your GP. Please, with such GP, you should not have any business with Carryover. 4.78 GP means that you didn't fail any course. If you have a carry-over, even if it's 1 credit load, you will be at 4.5GP.
In most Nigerian Universities, it's *very* difficult to be granted first class with a carry-over, though it's possible, but very rare, your case can be pleaded depending on your Dean during Senate meeting. Most first class Holders call for a remark of their answer sheet if they failed any course due to the damage it will do to their degree qualifications. That's why you need to be properly informed. Please, if you want to graduate with first class, try your best to stay away from Carry-over.

  61. Neither of them for now. It's recorded separately, it's used during reconciliation., Then all your results will be reconciled, at that time, they will replace the failed score with your pass score and divide it by the number of Times, you wrote the carryover. Eg. If you failed the course as F(30) before, and later scored A(81) after a resit, in result reconciliation after your degree exams, the column of the 30 which is written as F(30)=0 will be replaced with A(81)= 5/2=2.5 ~3( that's if you wrote the course and passed it after second attempt), hence C=3. So the 0 will be replaced by 3. ....this is what's called reconciliation of results

    1. The C is equal to a D during reconciliation. To be safe, work your academy record to 4.0 if you can, so that during reconciliation, it may still be 4.0 or 3.8 which is still a comfortable 2.1. It's dangerous to remain at 3.6 because anything can happen and your results may drop. Have a lovely day

    1. Hello dear, first I would advise you to change your circle of friends immediately. Meet your senior colleagues who are brilliant and seek help from them. Read other topics in this blog about how to pass your courses. Get a good study partner, go for tutorials, read through past question paper and look for answers in your note, ensure you buy textbooks or handout if your lecturer insist on it, most times, they have their mark😉, infact, some professors make it a gateway to pass their courses. Kindly find out what works in your citadel. Above all, study harder and change your reading pattern.

  65. Good day sir/ma.
In my school, summer session has just been introduced. My current level is 200 and I got one COV in my 100l second semester course which is 3 credit units and my current CGPA is 3.6, it was the COV that reduced my GP.
In my current level, there’s no extra credit unit allocated. So it’s not possible for me to register all my current courses and register the COV I had. I’ll have to drop one of my current course or carry that 100l COV to my final year because there’s still no space in 300l. And if i want to carry it over to 400l it’s very risky, I might spill 😞. I think now that my brain is still fresh on that course is the best time to clear it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My questions now are:
      1) Should i register the COV in my 200l and drop one of my 200l course to take it over to my 300l and take one of my 300l course again to final year?
      2) Is it possible for me not to drop any of my current level course so that I’ll just enroll for the summer session.
      3) If i want to enroll for summer session, is it mandatory to attend the normal lectures and test with my Juniors in 100l for that COV?
      4) If I register a course in summer session, which of my result will it reflect. Is it my 100l result, 200l result or there’s a separate result for summer session.
      5) If I want to enroll for the Summer session, will I still register it in this 200l? Because if I’m to register it, I’ll continue dropping one course till final year.
      6) Summer session was just introduced recently in my school and it’s starting September, so I don’t have much knowledge on it. Please shed more light.

    3. First of all, I would like to know the name of your institution and the state if it's in Nigeria.
Second, Kindly note that each citadel have their unique set rules for summer classes, I would advise you to meet your course advicer in your college or department, since it's still new, from there, discuss further with your college officer. They're in a better position to advise you.
Third, I would still need to know your institution, each course form do have a space for an additional unit, kindly meet your college officer to be sure of your core courses. There's always a space, maybe 2 credit or one credit. Take your course form to your course advicer(designated lecturer) and discuss further on this. It's very rare to find such. What am sure of is, if it's a 4 unit course, sure there's no space. But for 3 units... Or two, there's mostly 1 or 2 units left. If you later discovered there's a space, then kindly drop any one or two credit load, so you have enough space for the 3 credit load, in your next level, you can comfortably add the one or two credit that you dropped. However, these questions aren't for external advice, your course advicer and college Advicer will know better based on your institution.

Good day ma, I want to ask if one fail a course in 100l first semester then rewrite it in 200l first semester and had a B, will the person carry the carryover course back to 100l then remove the F and add the B then divide it by 2 as you said or the person will leave the course in 200l were he/she wrote it and had B and still Divide it by 2 then the F will still be shown in 100l

    1. 😄 Hello dear, I would advice you to get a notebook, record all yours grades from 100 level through final year. Remember to write the carryover score and how many times you wrote it. In final year, you will calculate and reconcile your results yourself to get a Clue of your degree grade. However, it's just for your own personal record keeping, To help you study harder and know your academic performance. The main results will be worked on by the admin unit upon graduation.

    2. Ma, I am in final year second semester now. Trying to calculate my CGPA but don't know how the Carryover is been calculated. I failed a course in 100l then rewrote it in 200l and I had a B, so as you said in your write up that a B is a D (for Carryover), does it mean the result will be removed from the 200l were I rewrote it back to 100l were I failed it. Which means the F will be removed and replaced with a D? Or the F will still remain in the 100l and calculated as zero then the B will be in the 200l were I rewrote it and be calculated there to?

    3. It's as I wrote it. During reconciliation, you didn't fail the course, you got a D in it.

    1. Yes, you can dear. I had six Carryovers. 3 in my 100l second semester and 3 in my 200l first semester. I made up my mind not to have any again, I struggled and sat for the courses failed and I passed them all. I read my books though was still doing my Normal duties but never Joked with my books again. I'm graduating already and I decided to calculate my CGPA from 100l to 300l I noticed I'm in 2:1. You can do same, just don't give up dear. You can drop your WhatsApp number gonna guide you. 68. Yes, you can graduate with 2:1, however, you may or may not graduate with your mate. I assume that you had the CO in your 100 level. Graduating with your mates will depend on the CO in each semester. If you failed 4 courses in one semester, it's automatic Extra year or spill over. If you failed 2 in each semester, it also depends on the credit units of the courses. The university regulations had been amended sometime ago and hence certain restrictions made. You will have to fix your failed courses before you fix current courses. Meet your course advicer and college officer to discuss more on that. Moving forward, Ensure you have no Carry over, tackle the failed courses and pass them with A. So that you will get a C in reconciliation(the only way to access 2:1). Like I said earlier in the topic, graduating with your mate isn't as important as graduating with a good grade. In the labour world, no one cares or asks if you graduated with your mates in school, they only care about your degree result. I wish you best of luck.

Do you find it difficult to concentrate? My dear, If you truly love the course, then something is wrong somewhere and that would require help. My dear, I would advise that you visit a counsellor, Maybe, you're passing Through a process that needs to be fixed. I will advise for a therapy first, take your time and heal, after that you will have a discussion with Dad, maybe by that time, you will need the assistance of an academic advisor to discuss with your dad. People should be allowed to study what they like, however, concentration is needed from you to avoid excessive carry-over.

    1. It's systematic. All Cumulatives are added and the average gotten through the no of years you've studied. Your results is in .00 not in .0.
Meaning that there's nothing like 3.5 or 3.6. it's either 3.54 or etc or 3.63, 3.66 etc, they're all important in computing your results. Cumulatives are added and divisible by the no of years of study.

  77. Good afternoon mam please help a sister. My 100L first semester Gp was 1.74 with 2 carryovers..
Then my 100L second semester i can't really remember what i got but i know i wrote them somewhere... And all made my CGPA for 100L to be 1.88...
Then in 200L my first semester i got 2.33... My 2cos in 100L first semester,i wrote then back in 200L first semester and pass them with Cs.
What my school does is they summarize result for a section...so my first semester 200L when i got 2.33.. The result format came out in this way..pervious, current, and cumulative.. Then my previous which was 100L cgpa was changed to 1.83 instead of 1.88 removing 0.05 which i don't know where that went to. It happened to many of us...so i don't know how that calculated the 1.33 to my 200L first semester result of 2.33 now giving me a cgpa of 2.00..
That's in total from 100L first, second and 200L first semester my cgpa is 2.00...
Now my 200L second semester am now seeing my previous cgpa which was 2.00 to be 2.05 meaning the 0.05 been removed from my 100L cgpa is been rectified .....
Now my cgpa is 2.05 for previous. So this my 200L second semester dropped to 1.78
Now with a cgpa of (1.99)....
Am about to start my 300L first semester...
And i will not be doing 300L second semester exams instead our second semester is for (IT)and the IT is a 6credit unit course..
Then the next is my final year..... Please advice me how can i make a (2.1)
    Have used 4semester 100 and 200L...
    Please i need your reply

    1. My dear, it will be difficult to make a 2:1, though it's possible. Focus on your IT for distinction which is 5.0. This will boost your CGPA. Also work harder during final year to get a minimum of 3.5 each semester, if you can then you will make 2:1. However, focus and ensure you study harder.

I got admitted into a five year course and finished f100L and she did exams for d session in 100L with a CGPA of 3.49 but I failed to do any of the exams in 200L due to financial issues. Will I be able to write exams with the current 300L which Is supposed to be my current level?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello dear, You're currently in 200 level not 300 level. Writing the session's exams qualifies you to enter the next level. You can't write 300 level exams if you've not written 200 level exams. This is What to do if you're in any financial distress: When you're in a financial difficulty and feel that you may not meet up with your exams, kindly defer your current level by applying via your department, via your college to the admin (Dean students affairs/academic affairs unit. After approval, Go home and source for fund. When you return, repeat the classes and write your exams, it won't be seen as carry-over but as a fresh course. However, because you didn't defer your level (200 level), all your courses are automatic carry-over. Even if you write the courses and score A, none will be recorded as A during your degree reconciliation. The highest you will get is C when grading your degree results though it maybe A in course result. I will advise that you should always seek for academic counsel before you embark on any decisions. Have a lovely day.

    2. First of all, your final year CGPA isn't your final (degree) results. Your entire results will be evaluated by the academic unit and your entire results (both passed carry-overs will be reconciled and graded properly). Remember, that even if you score an A in the carryover course you wrote, it's definitely a B during reconciliation, read through this topic, you will understand the method of results reconciliation.
From your results 2:2 is expected at 90%.The chances of 2:1 is 10%. I wish you good luck.
