Yes! I know what's supposedly going on in your mind...Questions like how?., are you for real?.. I don't think so!... No!,, lies).

Listen,  Adoption is free,  am here to tell you that this is not far from the truth. Most people adopt babies with a huge amount of money eg 500,000-1,000,000 Naira(1300 USD -2500USD) in Nigeria because they adopted via either of these 2 channels:

Adoption via Foundation

Adoption via illegal means.

A legal Adoption must be through the government's Adoption unit. Anything short of that is illegal

As a Nigerian living in Nigeria, I will advice you to start the process of adoption personally because there's no need going through a foundation or representative except you reside abroad.

There are basic Steps to go through if you want to Adopt in Nigeria. Click on the top 12 step by step Adoption Process  for Nigerians living in Nigeria

The only amount  of money you will be asked to pay is 80,000 naira Administrative fees(210 USD)only. Imagine such a low amount of money for a LEGITIMATE child!! Many people in Nigeria may not afford such amount from their day to day livelihood but such amount for adoption of a child( legal ownership) is affordable for even  lower tier citizens.

80,000 Naira is 210 USD.  THIS IS SIMPLY FREE because the money paid is just for documentation and processing of the applications, no other fee is charged. This is awesome. I write this information from experience and proper research made directly from the source.

To find out more, visit the Ministry of youth and social development (Adoption unit)  in your state of residence or preference for further enquiries. Kindly visit the Ministry own your own to avoid being scammed.

NOW, WHY DO PEOPLE PAY HEAVILY TO ADOPT IN NIGERIA despite a token of 80,000 Naira being the only amount payable to the government(For Nigerian residents who are locals)?. To answer this question, we shall elaborate on the reasons for such . They adopted through the following method :

(1)  ADOPTION THROUGH A REGISTERED FOUNDATION. This is a process of adopting a child via a foundation as your channel or intermediary. The foundation will represent you during documentation and other legal proces in the ministry. The process is Legal. As an independent company, they reserve the right to charge you any fee as their own administrative fees inclusive of the token payable to the government.

2)  ADOPTION VIA ILLEGAL /GET IT QUICK MEANS This is a common practice where people pay heavily or lobby for immediate release of a baby or child to them. There are baby factories which are illegal and a criminal act in Nigeria. In these factories, young girls are recruited and impregnated by men. Some are recruited while already pregnant by unknown men for the purpose of business. These factories(organisations), inturn sell these babies to people without thorough investigations on the prospective adopters. There are also few orphanage homes that give out babies secretly, these are illegal practices and if the perpetrators of this  act are caught, they will face the law.

If you want to Adopt, kindly go through:

(a) Registered foundation, which is a good choice for abroadians only Or (b) Go directly to the Ministry where you pay only 80,000 Naira.

For Nigerians living abroad, kindly click on PROCEDURE OF ADOPTION FOR NIGERIANS LIVING ABROAD. Remember that for such, the fee is different but relatively free!! If you're a foreigner who wants to adopt in Nigeria, kindly read PROCEDURE FOR INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION FOR NON NIGERIANS for further details.
